SIE Class of 2002
University of Campinas

Rafael continues his exciting ecophysiological research in Brazil with a recent PNAS study of Philcoxia, showing that this carnivorous plant traps nematodes as a nitrogen source with its subterranean leaves. Plants go to extremes to survive low nutrient habitats and stable isotopes help unravel these survival mysteries.
